Twitter is a social networking and micro blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. People are able to update what they are doing by the minutes and let there peers know what they are up to. Users can let everyone see their tweets or just restrict accesses to their friends and the people they choose to view. Tweets are allowed to be a maximum of 140 characters. There are more then 100 million users worldwide on twitter.
Twitter is used for many things. It is used for people to update what they are doing, it is used as a social networking site, it is used to report the news, and it is a messaging system. Twitter can be used to keep family in touch or even for a company to coordinate business. Twitter is used for both business and personal reasons.
Many people of many different backgrounds throughout the world hold their own twitter accounts. Athletes, actors, and doctors are just a few of the different kinds of people who have twitter accounts. They then are followed by the general public, who are people that are interested in them. Twitter is used very much to report news. Big news networks, such as Cnn use twitter to get news reports out faster to the public.
Some positive things about twitter are that anyone can use it, and it is not restricted to just famous people. It is also free which helps people because if you have a computer then you can have a twitter account. A good thing about twitter that many people may n to realize is that while you are on the website you are not bombarded by ad’s, as you usually are when you are using other free services. A 140 character limit to a tweet helps people realize what they are actually saying because its not like they are writing a long paragraph that they wont read over to themselves. Finally, there are numerous ways to accesses your twitter account, not just from a computer, you can use your phone as well as blackberry’s.
As with most social networking sites, there are major negatives about twitter. Cursing is very prevalent on peoples twitter accounts. There is also a problem with cyber bullying. People use twitter to bully each other and make rude remarks to each other. People with twitter accounts find it hard to maintain a profession image while using the website. Another negative thing about twitter is that there is not much to do on the website itself; there is really no point to it. It is another one of those horribly addictive websites that take people away from what is really important in their lives. It is another website for spammers to continue to try and hack people’s personal computers.
